FMITK x NYC
Whenever I have the opportunity to go to NYC, I make sure I go to my favorite spots and try at least two new ones. Thanks to my super awesome foodie friends, I got to try a few new places that will now be on me “must have when in NYC” list. ! Here’s a quick guide to some of FMITK’s favorite NYC foodie things.
FMITK Staples
The places I must go in NYC or my life is incomplete.
Momofuku Ssam Bar + Momofuku Milk Bar

http://milkbarstore.com/
Get something duck related at SsamBar then walk across the street to MilkBar and get a slice of crack pie or a compost cookie for dessert. Get a taste of the cereal milk ice cream while you’re there.

I love their steamed buns! Both the pork belly and this smoked salmon steamed bun are delicious.

I always say I’ll try something different but I always end up getting the duck over rice and a chive pancake. Their ssams (think burrito, but with a chive pancake instead of a tortilla) are also great.
Num Pang

Probably my favorite sandwich in the city. The pork belly is great, but it’s a bit rich. The shrimp is also wonderful. I usually end up with the brisket or the catfish.

It’s a fancy bahn mi! The peppercorn catfish is my current favorite.
Laduree
http://laduree.com/
Get as many macarons as you can afford. The seasonal flavors are always wonderful. The only flavor I was slightly disappointed in was the lemon. Get at least 2 salted caramel.

This box of 18 macaron was gone in 10 minutes.
New to FMITK
…these will probably be bumped up to the “staples” list for next trip.
Casa Mono
http://www.casamononyc.com/
Seriously, my new (to me) favorite restaurant in NYC. Everything that touched my lips was incredible. Get a seat at the bar and watch the chef work her magic.

crispy pig ears with market apples, kohlrabi, aged goat cheese and apple cider vinegar – my second favorite dish.

duck egg, mojama (salt cured and dried tuna), black truffles, fingerling potatoes.
I’m STILL dreaming of this. Sweet, sweet delicious duck egg dreams. It’s my favorite thing from the entire trip. #trufflesovereverything

bone marrow, marcona almond puree, quince and scallions.

foie gras with cinco cebollas (five onions)

confit goat with avocado queso, and scallion ash (scallion ash I said!!!)
Boqueria
http://www.boquerianyc.com/
More tapas! I actually ate at Casa Mono and Boqueria on the same day, but their version of tapas differ so much it wasn’t tapas overload.

patatas bravas, salsa brava, roasted garlic aioli

this housemade sausage was insane! salchichon iberico – acorn-fed spiced pork sausage with garlic and herbs.

croquettas – ham and mushroom.

gambas al ajillo- shrimp, garlic, guindilla peppers, olive oil. this is a must have.

paella!
Maharlika
http://maharlikanyc.com/
Filipino food still hasn’t become a mainstream “Asian” staple like Thai or Vietnamese food, but Maharlika is looking to change that. They use real calamansi, and that makes them legit in my book lol

crispy delicious sisig.

Maharlika’s play on chicken and waffles – Filipino style fried chicken (no breading) and ube (purple yam) waffles with anchovy and bagaoong butter. Amazeballs. The butter makes it.

pork adobo with fingerling potatoes.
